Dr. Ashley Austin, Veterinarian at Animal Hospital of Maple Valley

Dr. Ashley Austin

Veterinarian

Dr. Ashley Austin hails from the Gulfcoast of Alabama where she grew up surrounded by live oaks and a menagerie of animals- both wild and domesticated. Her deep love of animals started early as she rescued, rehabilitated, and loved hamsters, dogs, cats, and a very sweet opossum named Stumpy. Dr. Austin finished her undergraduate degree at Auburn University in 2004, from there she traveled the world living and working in Thailand and Australia. Her love of animals stayed true and in 2012 she graduated from The Ohio State University with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Austin relocated to Seattle following graduation and after 4 years working under Dr. Jeffrey Miller she is excited to venture on her own!

Dr. Bruce is a 2016 Washington State University graduate (Go Cougs!). After graduation, she moved to the Land of Oz (Kansas) to work at a veterinary hospital in Wichita. She returns to the Northwest to be closer to her family.
In her free time, Dr. Bruce enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, and their “little rat” Bebe. Dr. Bruce also likes outdoor activities such as hiking, paddleboarding, and kayaking.

Graduate of St. George’s University 2021 class, he spent his clinical year at the University of Illinois. Born and raised in the greater Seattle Area, he returned after his studies to work with Dr. Austin. In his free time Dr. Lord enjoys rock climbing, spending time with his wife, and their 2 cats Torin and Silkie. He hopes to help mentor and raise the next generations of veterinarians, and promote good animal stewardship in the years to come.

I am Doctor Alyssa Mau. I am from New Hampshire! I have wanted to be a veterinarian since I was in elementary school. I grew up with a dog and a lot of cats and went to a school with a good agriculture program.
I got my bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Vermont in 2016. While living in Vermont I worked at a dairy farm for about 1 year. To this day cows are one of my favorite animals!
I went to Saint George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine in Grenada and graduated in January of 2021.
I have 2 cats named Torin and Silkie, who were adopted during Vet School, and a dog named Daisy.

Ashley grew up surrounded by animals and knew from a very young age that she wanted to work in the veterinary field. She graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at Pima Medical Institute and has been helping animals ever since.

When she’s not at work, she’s with her 6-year-old son, Lucas, and 3-year-old daughter, Layla, going to hockey games or spending days at the beach when it’s warm. They live with their three cats Miley, Ellie, and Winston. In her free time, Ashley enjoys traveling, swimming, and exploring new places, trying new restaurants, and hanging out with friends.

Kate has always had a passion for animals since growing up. She carried on her passion through school and graduated from the Veterinary Technology program at Pierce College in 2017. She obtained her license shortly afterwards. Kate joined the team in August 2019 and is proud to call Animal Hospital of Maple Valley her home.

Kate is very active and loves being outdoors, hiking or fishing with her dad. She also enjoys bowling with friends and has a personal high score of 279. She also spends a lot of time with her loveable boxer named Dot.

Receptionist

Norel is one of our front desk receptionists. She has been working in the veterinary field for over two years. She had always dreamed of working with animals and finally took the plunge when she moved to Washington from California. She originally came here with her husband and her chihuahua named Peanut.

Since then, her family has grown. With a toddler and a kitty named Bolt, she now has a full house. She loves all animals, big and small, and will always try her best to help you and your pets any way she can.

Alyssa Carlin
Alyssa is our lead receptionist. Alyssa has grown up in Enumclaw where she spends most of her time hiking, reading, riding quads and dirt bikes and hanging out with her dog Cedar and her cats Timber, Willow, MooMoo and Meow! She has always dreamed of working with animals and is so excited to keep moving forward in the veterinary industry!

Shauna Barron

Shauna graduated top of her class at Renton tech in 2015. She’s always had a love for pets ever since she was 5 years old trying to play veterinarian on her dogs. She’s very passionate about her work with every fur baby that comes in to visit. When she’s not at work, she’s spending her time with her family and two dogs.

Raylene was born and raised in California. She moved to Washington in 2012 where she started working at AHMV. With over 11 years of experience in the veterinary field, she started out as a receptionist and has always been committed to providing exemplary physical and emotional care for patients and their families. Raylene finds it rewarding to continue her skills, passions, and knowledge with a devoted team. Her mission is to provide professional and compassionate care and educate clients on how to keep their pets healthy and happy! When she is not working, Raylene enjoys watching football and going back home to visit her daughter, Valerie, son Benny, grandson Maverick, and the rest of her family.

Haley Hansen

Veterinary Assistant 

My name is Haley I have been in the veterinary field since 2018 but my love for animals started as young as 2 with my first cat Tigger. I worked for a rabbit rescue from age 11-18, I then started as a Kennel assistant at a practice in Enumclaw. I started my assistant classes at PIMA but things didn’t work out because halfway through my program I had my son. Being determined to work with animals I went back to school online and graduated as a certified veterinary assistant and certified in animal nutrition. I did my externship with Animal Hospital of Maple Valley and hired on from there.  Wanting to help the troubled ones, I went back to school to become a dog trainer, soon I will be going back again to become a canine behaviorist. I have 2 dogs, a Husky Malamute mix named Kenai and a Husky Border Collie mix rescue named Mister, I also have 2 cats Ashley and Lola. In my free time I like to spend time with my family and Hiking.

Amie grew up with a love for animals and had a variety of animals from lizards to peacocks and everything in between. She joined veterinary care in 2012 and has enjoyed learning from her experience in both primary care and emergency/veterinary care. She even met her husband while working in veterinary care!

Amie is a part time receptionist and full time mom to her kids Desmond, 5 and Taison, 2.

Hi, my name is Stephani and I’ve been with Animal Hospital of Maple Valley since April 2019. I’ve always had a passion for all animals large and small; and knew at a young age that I wanted to work with animals. I received my certificate of Veterinarian Assistant at PIMA Institute with goals of furthering my education in the future. In my free time I like read, listen to music, crafting, and spending time outdoors and with family. I have a 14 year old calico named Piper and a sweet/feisty miniature pinscher named Roxi.

I’ve owned and taken care of many animals of all sizes throughout my life and I plan to have many more in my near future. I graduated high school with my AA and I plan to continue schooling for a career that involves animals. In my free time I like art, gardening, taking my animals for adventures whether that be to the mountains or random little trips.

Candice has been with the Animal Hospital Of Maple Valley since before Dr Austin bought the practice!
Hi my name is Candice and I’m a veterinary technician at AHMV. I have been in the veterinary profession for 20+ years and love working with animals of all kinds. I have a small farm where I breed Nubian goats and make soap using their milk. I have 14 goats and 4 fantastic working dogs who help me on the farm and keep things interesting.

My name is Jennifer and have been working in the vet field since 2018. I started as a receptionist at a different clinic where I met Dr. Austin. After being given the opportunity to be trained as an assistant, I followed Dr. Austin to AHMV, as an assistant/receptionist. My love for animals started as a kid, I owned turtles, bunnies and parakeets, eventually owning ducks, and chickens and now currently have 6 cats and 3 small dogs. I love to spend time with family and my coworkers, and spoiling my fur babies, especially the cats.

My name is Morgan Brown and I am an LVT. I have been in the veterinary field since 2004. I have been a  kennel assistant, receptionist and a veterinary assistant. I attended Pierce College to become a technician and graduated in 2005. I have enjoyed working in small animal general practice and emergency. When I am not at work I enjoy spending time with my husband and 2 kids, gardening and being outside. We share our home with a dog, 2 cats, a rabbit, a horse, lots of chickens and various fish.

Kelly was born and raised in Maple Valley and graduated from Tahoma High School in 2018. Her love and passion for animals led to success while competing in raising and showing chickens and pigs in her local FFA. She continued to pursue her passion by seeking a career in the veterinary field. Kelly graduated from Pierce College Veterinary Technology Program in 2020 and has been working as a licensed veterinary technician ever since.

 

When not at the clinic, Kelly enjoys camping, hiking, riding quads, gardening, and hanging out with her family. She has a Lab mix named Zeus, Golden Retriever named Jessie, and numerous chickens and ducks.

Justin is one of our assistants who has been with us since September of 2020, Justin is from Washington and grew up here. Justin has had a love for animals all his life and shares his home with his two cats Walter and B-MO and his pug Luna. In his free time, Justin likes to hike, read, garden, and spend time with his pets.

The Animal Hospital of Maple Valley was founded by Dr. Karla Mooers in 1999. After Dr. Mooers passed away in 2019, Ashley Austin bought the business in July of that year. Dr. Mooer created a business that has been a staple of Maple Valley, WA, for over 20 years, that the community continues to love and trust.
